Who colocates with us

Colocation makes sense once renting stops adding up: you already own hardware, you have a specific build nobody rents, or you need your equipment in a facility you can reason about. Typical customers are ISPs and WISPs putting edge gear on-net, hosting providers running their own fleet, agencies and enterprises moving a server room out of an office closet, and network operators who need a Michigan presence with real exchange connectivity. Colocation in Michigan also puts your equipment directly on the two exchanges we already peer at, GRR-IX and DET-IX, rather than behind somebody else's transit.

What a deployment includes

Space is the smallest part of it. Every deployment comes with redundant power, IPv4 and IPv6 assignments if you need them, and our blended transit from AS32002 included as standard. Full cabinets are the exception: those are usually sized around the customer's own transit, though we are happy to provide our blend if you want it. Cross connects to other tenants and carriers are available at both sites, with the cross connect cost itself billed to the customer.

On our own network in Michigan

RackGenius runs its own autonomous system, AS32002, rather than reselling someone else's capacity. We are on-net in two Michigan data centers: 123Net DC1 in Detroit (DTW), our primary site, and 123Net DC4 in Grand Rapids (GRR). The two are directly connected. We reach both GRR-IX and DET-IX from either location for redundancy, and carry Hurricane Electric, Cogent and 123Net upstream. Short paths to the Midwest exchanges keep latency low and steady across the region. It also means routing problems are ours to fix rather than something we escalate to another provider.

Where are your colocation facilities?

We colocate in two directly connected Michigan facilities: 123Net DC1 in Detroit (DTW), our primary site, and 123Net DC4 in Grand Rapids (GRR). We reach both GRR-IX and DET-IX from either location for redundancy, and carry Hurricane Electric, Cogent and 123Net upstream.

How much does colocation cost?

Single server colocation starts at $60/mo, and that price is the same at either site. Quarter, half and full cabinets depend on space, power draw and bandwidth, so we quote those per deployment. Open a sales ticket telling us which site, how much space and roughly what you expect to draw, and we will come back with real numbers.

What sizes can I colocate?

Single server colocation covers 1U to 5U. Above that we offer quarter cabinet (10U), half cabinet (20U) and full cabinet (42U). If your footprint sits between two of those, ask - we will work out what fits.

Is bandwidth included, or do I buy transit separately?

Blended IP transit from AS32002 is included with every colocation service. Full cabinets are the exception, since those are normally sized around the customer's own transit, but we are happy to provide our blend there too if you want it. Flat port or 95th percentile billing, whichever suits your traffic.

Do you provide remote hands?

Yes, and there is no charge for it. We do not keep staff on site around the clock, so remote hands has to be scheduled in advance. Open a ticket with what you need and when, and we will arrange a time.

Can I bring my own IP space and ASN?

Yes. Announce your own prefixes over BGP with full community support for traffic steering, or take IPv4 and IPv6 assignments from us. IPv6 is natively supported across the network.

Who pays for cross connects?

Cross connect costs are the customer's responsibility, the same as with our IP transit service. Tell us what you need to reach and we will tell you what is available at that site.
